Some great news this week as the cost of your driving theory test is set to come down by £6 this year.
So if you’re thinking about, or have already begun your driving lessons, you’re theory test could now cost you 20% less. Currently £31, the theory test will now cost aspiring motorists just £25 come October 2014 and is set for further reductions in 2015.
The reason behind the cost cut is said to be in an attempt to cut costs for learner drivers – the cut is set to save would-be motorists almost £100m over the next decade. This cut is not just for car drivers either – the theory test fee for motorbikes and other vehicles is set to be reduced too.
“We want to keep costs down for all motorists – that’s why we have frozen fuel duty and by reducing the cost of the theory test we will save aspiring motorists around £9m annually” explains transport minister Stephen Hammond.
“This has been achieved without compromising on the vital role the theory test plays in making sure that new drivers know the Highway Code and the rules of the road. I am delighted that theory test will now offer better value for money while continuing to meet these rigorous standards.”
Of course, we here at New Look Loans are delighted by this news; specialists car finance brokers, we strive to obtain car credit, motorbike finance, road legal quad bike finance, van finance and caravan finance regardless of credit history. Saving motorists – old and new – significant money when getting on the road is what we do best.
However, while the theory test may now be cheaper, the average first time pass rate is recorded as less than 50%. That’s a pretty poor pass rate.
Learning to drive and taking your practical test obviously will come more easily to some than to others – but when it comes to your theory test, preparation is key – so make sure you’re prepared. As well as official hand-outs and packages, there are many free online resources such as the free online official Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) practice theory test. These mock tests are tailored depending on whether you drive a car, motorcycle, large goods vehicle (LGV) or passenger carrying vehicle (PCV).
