Does you aircon need a recharge?
The hot weather has landed early to the UK this summer and all the signs are that it is going to be a scorcher. So you should make sure your air-conditioning is ready.
Most air-conditioning systems should be recharged every two years, although we recommend a thorough check every 12 months. Most air-conditioning systems actually lose 10% of their gas year-on-year through natural leakage in the system and degradation due to the conditioning process. These are facts that most owners disregard and the first they know about their air-conditioning failing is when they try it on a hot day and the system is just plain ineffective, which is uncomfortable at best and dangerous at worst.
That’s the last thing you need when the sun is beating down, so it pays to be prepared. An improperly charged system will have to work harder to achieve the same results, too, which will put a greater strain on the working parts and also cost you when it comes to the pumps. Fuel is expensive these days and an inefficient air-conditioning system will cost you in the end.
The gas is the main refrigerant that keeps the whole system running and starts life in the compressor. Here it becomes a supremely hot, high-pressure gas that is then fired at the condenser, where it combines with fresh air.
The refrigerant turns to liquid at this point, losing its heat, before it is filtered by the drier and heads to the expansion valve that controls how much liquid hits the evaporator. It’s this valve that you open and close when you change the temperature on the system. The evaporator is the final destination and the cool liquid travels through the coils, cools the air around it and it is that which provides blessed relief from the heat.
It’s a massively complicated system for such a simple function, especially with modern-day electronics getting in on the act. So it’s good to know you can rely on expert professionals to regas and maintain your system.
Cool Car are car air con recharge specialists and have been for more than 25 years, so we know air-conditioning systems inside and out. We supply air-con services to the public, trade, local garages and main dealers. We even offer a mobile car air-con service and our fully qualified, trained and insured engineers can come out to your home or place of work and recharge your air-conditioning system at your convenience. The best part is the price, it costs from just £49 to regas air-conditioning systems.
Our engineers can also diagnosed and fix faults, too, so if there is a problem with your air-conditioning or if has just lost its swagger, we can help.
